                         Carol
Adrienne's work and teachings have been a great
inspiration to me!  In August of 1998, about four months after my
father passed away, I read about one of Carol's
workshops in a Learning Annex catalog and
synchronistically found her book on a bookshelf at the
bookstore.  The themes of her teachings were
familiar and comforting, as they confirmed the thoughts
and ideas my father had shared with me shortly before
his passing.  Her books and workshops ignited my
spiritual curiosity, setting me on my soulful life path,
which led to the very creation of
                        SoulfulLiving.com!  Carol's participation has been
an integral part of SoulfulLiving.com, at its soul
level!  Thank you, Carol, with all my heart!

Let Your Dream Come Through Debra Doyle, fifty, is in the process of re-inventing her
life—starting with moving from Sacramento, California across
the country to Maine. The move has not yet happened, but
she’s on the trail of making her dream come through—yes, I
said, through, not true!  Her dream is to be involved in the
creative arts and promote emerging artists.  She also wants
to live in a small community on the East Coast—probably in
					Maine.
I first met Debra in 2003. She already had her own
business, Creative Solutions, consulting with small business
owners—a business she created after twenty years in the
					medical and insurance industries.
					Intuition Breaks Through Persistently
Debra says, “This image of a new life started July 30th
of 2003, when I was taking one of your teleclasses, and I
started getting some new ideas.  There were three artists in
that group, who were talking about how to market
themselves.  Listening to them, I started seeing a new
direction for myself.   I had been feeling restless, and
knew I wanted to do something different.  After the class, I
began to think about selling art and promoting artists.  The
idea of living in a closely knit community, closer to nature
just seemed so appealing.  I’ve loved the East Coast since I
					was young.

Debra kept wondering which area would be the best for what
she was imagining. Immediately, she started seeing articles
about Maine everywhere.   “It was spooky,” she says, “For
example, I was at the Target store one day and some guy came
around the corner and had MAINE written on his shirt!  I
have been receiving the idea of Maine for three years. [The
day after I interviewed Debra, the husband of friend I was
visiting came to the door wearing a MAINE sweatshirt. CA]
Debra started researching Internet sites about Maine, and
corresponding with real estate agents.  She was further
spurred on by two events.  The first was the death of her
father last year.  “I found out that my dad was a real
adventurer only after he died. He never once talked about
this, but he left behind a story of his life. It revealed
that he did what he wanted to do without any fear of being
held back. Once I discovered all the things he had done and
was involved in, I thought, ‘Okay, what’s my deal?’”
The second turning point for Debra was turning fifty.  She
realized that if she didn’t make changes now, she might
never do it. She started planning, and quickly realized that
the only obstacle was having the guts to do it—an
internal conflict. “It was me in the way.”

Conflicts are Hard to Solve Until…

Internal conflicts have the effect of holding us back from
trying something new.  For example, we want something, but
we don’t feel that we deserve it.  Or we think we it’s too
late to achieve it.  Or we don’t know how to make it
happen.  So we do nothing.  One way to deal with internal
conflicts is to make the issue into an external
problem that can then be worked on step-by-step.
The first step for Debra was to
get a notebook and write down every fear and concern. Her
concerns were: worry about traveling alone; things that
could go wrong; explaining her dream to others who thought
she was being a little crazy to upset her present
situation.  “For each concern I wrote down positive
statements about how to deal with it.  Once I wrote
solutions down, I knew I could deal with each worry.
Sometimes it was kind of silly—like fear of getting lost.  I
thought, well if I get lost, I’ll ask somebody for help,
like I always do! I also learned to keep my ideas to myself
unless I was talking to someone who was receptive.
					Debra had another common fear.
What if it turned out that Maine was not “it?”  What if her
dream turned out to be just that and nothing more?  Many
times, we prefer to keep our dream in our head, for fear of
finding out that it’s going to be too hard to do, or
disappointing.  In Debra’s case, she thought, “What is
worse? To know it’s not going to work or not to know?  I’d
					rather know.”
Debra made a plan for trip, but it wasn’t long before the
plan fell apart—as plans are wont to do. Interestingly, her
seatmate on the plane was a woman who travels all over the
world by herself, and who told her how much she enjoyed it.
A great message for Debra! Her goal was to stay in Portland
for a week, and drive to areas in which she was interested.
In particular, she was looking for businesses to buy. The
first day went well. But when she got to Portland, things
began to deteriorate.  Debra says, “I ended up staying on
the wrong side of town.  It wasn’t safe, and I was extremely
uncomfortable, so I decided to move.  I opened my travel
book to a random page, and put my finger down on listings
for Freeport, Maine.  I called the first place—the Harrasseket Inn, and they had everything I wanted, so that’s
					where I went.”

Debra’s experience on the trip proved that Portland was not
where she wanted to be.  But in walking about the towns such
as Freeport, she began to meet shop owners, who poured out
local information and encouraged her to consider owning a
business and living there.  “I felt wonderful,” says Debra,
“I could see that having a store could be a real thing. Each
day I had no plan, and just got drove around to wherever my
intuition pointed.”  Old timers welcomed her. New arrivals
from California encouraged her.  “I noticed that the women
had a certain glow about them,” says Debra. “They
were very happy.  That really impressed me.  Also, people
who leave Maine, often return.  The whole time I was there,
no one asked me what I do for a living.  What you do is
secondary to who you are.  That felt so different from the
people I know in California.  It seemed every person had a
					message for me.

“For example, one thing that has been bothering me for
awhile at home,  is that I don’t have my own computer. I
have to work on the family computers..  Therefore, I was
flabbergasted when I walked into a little jewelry store in
Maine, and the owner, who was sitting at her computer,
looked up at me, and said, ‘You know, you need to have your
own computer.  I’ll bet you work on everyone else’s
computer, and you have problems because it’s not your own.
You need to get your own computer.’ She seemed to read my
					mind!”
For Debra, the trip proved a success because she now knows
that what she wants  really exists.  “Now,” she says, “I’m
putting a plan together to achieve it.  First on my list is
to get my own computer!   Oh, and by the way, my friends say
I glow. My best friend commented that I seem so much more
spontaneous about getting together now.  Even my doctor
said, and I quote: ‘You look like a whole new woman. What
					have you done?’”
Now it’s your turn.  What dream or desire has been patiently
sitting in the back of your mind?  What one step could you
take to find out more, and let the dream come through?
