Feng Shui for an RV
Dear Nancilee,
Since our retirement we live in a RV and travel the
country. Is there is anything feng shui can advise about our living space?

Dear BM and RM,
The major difference between living in an RV and living
in an apartment or house is that the directions fluctuate and are not permanent. This
doesn't represent a serious problem for if one camp site is
direction wise inappropriate, the problem is typically
short lived. More important to consider are the three key living spaces. They are where you gather, where you prepare dine and the location
of your bed.
In terms of importance, the gathering space is the
most significant, especially in an RV when driving consumes most of your day. Sitting side by side when driving is
the position least likely to inspire conversation. Studies by famed anthropologist, Edward T. Hall brought to
awareness that the relationship of seating influences the amount of interchanges. The seating most likely to
inspire conversation is when seated at right angle and the seating least likely
to engender conversation is side by side. Sitting across from one another falls in the middle. Thus, since you are likely to spend
time side by side when driving, it is imperative to have right angle seating in
your gathering space.
Further, dining is a time when most couples and
families enjoy each other's company. It is a time when lively interchanges make the experience of being together
nourishing and satisfying. Many times those living in RV's do not hang artwork on the walls for obvious reasons or safety. However, the
views from each dining chair should be joyful, colorful and with a depth view. Find
cloth hangings or posters and secure to walls instead of
framed, heavier artwork.
Finally, park your RV in such as way as to locate your
bed furthest from any surrounding electrical poles. The electric fields emanating from the poles could interrupt
a good night's sleep. Secondly, locate the bed as far from the road as possible. Feeling safe is typically associated with being the
furthest from points of entry, which in a RV camp is the road that joins the camping spaces.
Many will read this column and set their sights on the
day when they can travel the country without a care in the world. Enjoy your retirement!
