Soulful Soulmates

Soulful Soulmates

Happy Valentine’s Day to all readers of this special Valentine’s Edition! Regardless of whether we already have that special someone in our life or not yet, today is a great day to be particularly joyful and happy, feeling romantic and loving. As is every day really, but that is perhaps a subject for another day. To feel tuned in to the many aspects of love is always a great idea as it makes and keeps us happy! Longtime readers of my books or previous articles here know that I have written quite a bit about love, the many kinds, among souls in human form or not, universal love, its active and passive forms, and so on. But love can be painful too if it is not experienced with a grain of wisdom—by keeping the big picture in mind and remembering the perennial perspective of who we really are and what we came here to learn, experience, do and enjoy. To celebrate this auspicious day, let me share a short excerpt from my first book in 1999 (Yes I Am Happy Now!), parts of a subchapter called My Mate. Begin excerpt: “Most of us look for a partner with whom we can share our life with. A person we can love and who loves us back. A person we can come to understand and who understands us. A person we can trust and who can put his/her trust back into us. A person who supports us and we can give support. Somebody with whom we are happy being with. This is a very natural drive we all share. Everybody wants...
Soulful, Happy and Healthy!

Soulful, Happy and Healthy!

25th Anniversary Issue   It is both a great pleasure and honor to contribute this 25-Year Anniversary article to Soulful Living, the pioneering self-help portal founded by its visionary founder. Happy Anniversary! This is actually my fifth article here, the first one was published in the very beginning, in the year 2000! Today, I would like to take you on a little but hopefully exciting excursion, exploring what it means to be soulful in the truest sense of the word and how this understanding can help us be happy and healthy in a holistic way. Many, if not most, of you will likely agree that we live in both complex and challenging times. One could even call them dramatic, or sometimes, outright traumatic. Worldwide, we can now witness or experience the very deep divisions that are evident in our societies, within families, among friends. Nobody seems to agree with anybody on anything anymore! As a result, there is so much anger, so many hurt feelings, and sadly, a great number of ruptured relationships with even important people, people that were actually meant to be a part of our life journey. Yet, by deciding not to love our loved ones we mostly punish ourselves. That is a soulful truth, whether we like to acknowledge it or not. Here we will not investigate the many causes of our troubles or who is to blame for what. But recognize this both contemporary and historical fact: Those who divide and rule us are laughing when we are arguing among ourselves. Don’t fall for it, or stop participating. In my writings I’ve always acknowledged...
One World, One Religion

One World, One Religion

20th Anniversary Issue   What is the difference between Judaism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and New Age philosophy? Many regular readers of Soulfulliving.com are likely to be well versed in New Age thoughts and techniques, yet may have at least a cultural background in one of the main religious traditions. Some might say that it is a bit of a silly question to ask as the differences are so huge that people are willing to both kill and die over their particular beliefs. In terms of organized religion, there are indeed many differences. Even within a particular belief system. But from a perennial philosophy point of view, there is really no difference. Or not many at all. Allow me to elaborate on this with some thoughts and a few excerpts from my books, specially for this 20 year celebration issue of Soulfulliving – with my heartfelt congratulations to Valerie, its founder and editor-in-chief! But first, let’s quickly address the charge (by evangelical atheists and their followers) about the supposed venality of religion, that it is a main driver of wars. It is certainly true that religion has been used as an external reason, justification and motivation for violence, yet the real cause is always power and profits. Throughout history, all wars were and still are instigated by the elite for the exclusive benefits of the elite. All killing and dying however is done by the peasants (a.k.a. the regular ruled people). Normal folks don’t just wake up one morning and think about starting a nice little war somewhere, just to pay higher taxes or worse, having to leave their...
