Numerology and Understanding Dreams
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
~Eleanor Roosevelt
This month we will talk about dreams and numerology. Many believe that our dreams have purpose in our lives, but finding the personal meaning within your dreams can involve some personal effort, and a willingness to look inside. Let’s roll up our sleeves, and take the first steps in understanding your dreams
What do your dreams mean? In ancient times the Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks and Hebrews all thought that dreams were very important. Many cultures thought that dreams came from somewhere outside of themselves. They thought that the gods gave them dreams. Because of these beliefs their dreams became personal, important, powerful and authoritative. Today there are many theories about the meaning and value of dreams. Many believe that dreams are a way of reviewing the events of the day through imagery and symbolism.
You may need, or want, to find some professional resources to work with the information of your dreams. One method called
Gestalt therapy was developed by
Frederic (Fritz) Perls. This method involves emotional dreamwork. Rather than understanding, interpreting and connecting the dreams with the past, the therapy that Perls developed has the dreamer act out aspects of his dream.
Consider a dream about a roaring campfire. Someone having such a dream would be encouraged to describe how it feels to be the fire. You could describe yourself as bright, hot, pungent and powerful. The next step would be to act as if you were the fire. The Gestalt therapist could also encourage dialogue between the dreamer and the objects within the dream. In the instance of the campfire, your discussions could uncover where you are holding yourself back from your passions, as fire can represent passion.
Understanding the meaning of each symbol within a dream may be difficult at first. It can make things easier if you break the dream down into
manageable parts, and then look at the basic elements within those parts. Last month we talked a little about the elements. The most basic dream symbols are often the four elements: air, earth, water, and fire. Often we may have dreams about escaping a burning building, drowning, swimming, flying, falling, or being in an earthquake. Looking at the "elements" within your dream can help you to develop a basic understanding of the message that the dream has for you.
Looking at the elements within a dream from a numerological perspective can be even more illuminating. The numbers, elements and meanings are in the chart below, and you can access them in
our online Dream Tool. From a numerological perspective the fire, in the dream above, relates to the numbers 3 and 9. These numbers deal with joy, passion, excitement, daring, romance and spirituality.
You may want to ask yourself where in your life these qualities are missing. Perhaps you are afraid of going deeper into a relationship, or your unconscious is encouraging you to take some kind of risk.

I would recommend taking the process a step further, and looking at the appropriate runes, or tarot cards. By bringing these other tools into your understanding, the information that is available can easily increase. In this case we could look at the Empress Card and the Hermit Card. The meanings of these two cards could be very important to your unlocking the messages of the dream.
The Empress card can be about productivity, creativity, inspiration, abundance and procreation. This card describes a person who is productive, possibly prolific, especially in the creative arts or sciences. However everything occurs in its own time. This card can also represent an individual who is very close to nature and in touch with the physical world.
We have all heard the phrase: "burning the candle on both ends". This phrase can refer to you if you are especially prolific, and constantly busy. Just like the campfire, you are constantly crackling and roaring, but without proper adjustments you can burn yourself out. There are many levels of meaning and understanding that can go with any symbol. Where you are in your life at a given moment will also color the meaning of symbols.
Also, consider the fact that fire needs something to burn. Fire does not exist alone. It needs air, and a material to burn. If you were having the campfire dream you might want to ask yourself how you were fueling your own needs. This includes physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. The questions you might want to ask would be:
Am I eating properly?
Am I getting enough rest?
Am I spreading myself to thin?
Am I paying attention to the needs of those around me?
Am I being overly demanding?
Am I being demanding enough?
Am I being supportive?
The symbols may also represent people in your life. The Astrological signs relating to the elements are as follows:
Fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius.
Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces
Air signs are Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn.
You may want to consider that the comforting fire in your dream is a loved one, or someone that you draw inspiration, hope, courage, and stamina from. You then may want to analyze some basic Numerology readings for that person, so that you can get a better understanding about him/her.
The language of dreams is complex. Learning the signs, symbols and symbolism is a very important cornerstone to your overall success in understanding and working with your dreams. The work is up to you. Being able and willing to work with the material from your dreams is critical. Numerology can be a great aid this undertaking.
As I have said before, You are the architect of your personality and character. Your dreams may help you to learn about, develop and nurture different areas of your personality. As you begin to learn about dreams, you may wish to find a good therapist who can help you to unlock even more than you ever thought possible. Many therapists today, believe that dreams provide opportunities for
intrapersonal and unlimited interpersonal growth. Some will even teach you to "control" your dreams through
lucid dreaming.
Good luck in your journey into soulful living and Numerology.
