Our
gorgeous handmade Tibetan Fair Trade Specialty Stationery Sets and
Paper Notecards are hand crafted in Nepal,
using sustainably harvested Lokta Paper
fibers and ecologically sound,
traditional techniques, nearly 2000
years old. The Lokta (Daphne cannabina) tree is a fast growing, under-story shrub, which grows in the middle mountains of Nepal, at 6,500 feet in elevation.
The art of Lokta paper making is being
preserved through various equal
opportunity cooperatives which teach and
provide income for many Nepalese women
and men. Read
more about the paper-making process. Lokta paper is acid free, soft and
smooth in texture, fibrous in
appearance, and has exceptional
durability.
The company that supplies our handmade stationery sets is a founding
member of the Fair Trade Federation and
works directly with Tibetan and Nepalese
artisans to create designs that
celebrate the beauty and culture of
Tibet. Proceeds from purchases of their
products benefit both individual
artisans, the producer groups they work
with, and the Tibetan refugee community.
