A Goddess is a Girl's Best Friend

Our Romance Reverend gives readers tips on how to get ready for true love on a deep and soulful level. Read on if you are ready to take the next steps on your personal road to romance.

"My Beautiful, As-Yet-Unknown Love"

Love Has Its Own Schedule

Dear Romance Reverend: I am turning 23 in a week and I have been single for over a year.  I have everything a 23 year old could want: a loving family, new car, good job, money, but yet I am not happy.  I know I should be, but something is missing.  I feel like I am running out of time to find someone.  What do you think? --Alone

Dear Alone,

Happy birthday! You are way too young to be running out of time—your time just hasn’t come yet. I think you are in the exact right place, poised at the portal of romance and love, feeling a readiness to let love in. If you are feeling lonely, filled with desire and longing to finally meet your soulful lover, don’t be afraid of these feelings; know that they are indicators that you are on the right path. One of the most important parts of the process of opening to a soul mate is that deep yearning you feel. That feeling that you’ll just burst with desire if love doesn’t come knocking on your door soon.

I am glad you have so much going for you, that you seem to have your life together, because that is what will make you ready for love. It could be that your true love is out there in the world, trying to get his act together or looking for a new job or completing ties with an old lover … and getting ready for you, his yet unknown love. When your time comes, it will all change in an instant—which is why it is so important for you to do anything else you might need to get yourself ready for love. Then, just go on leading a fabulous life. Be present in your own life, so that you are completely awakened, aware and ready when true love comes.

Being alone at this moment in time does not equal failure, nor does it signal that love will never come or that you are running out of time. Open your heart, relax and say a prayer, every night, for 30 days, asking for true love and the perfect relationship for you.

What Would Life Be Like If You Knew Exactly When True Love Would Come?

A Goddess is a Girl's Best Friend

My Beautiful, As-Yet-Unknown Love

When we honor the yearning we feel for love and take full responsibility for putting our lives in order, we draw love even closer. Being fit for a relationship requires preparing body, mind and being, as well as literally creating the space for love to enter. Ultimately, soul mate love has its own schedule and the journey is filled with great mysteries and questions. Somehow, when the time is right and you are ready, you will know. Let me share with you my favorite poem about magnetizing soul mate love, "My Beautiful, As-Yet-Unknown Love," by French poet Michel Quiost.

My beautiful love, as yet unknown
you are living and breathing
somewhere far away, or perhaps quite close to me,
but I still know nothing
of the threads that form the fabric of your life
or the pattern which makes your face distinctive

My beautiful love as yet unknown
I would like you to think of me tonight
as I am thinking of you--
not in a golden dream that is far from my real self
but as I really am, a living person

My beautiful love, as yet unknown,
I love you although your face is hidden.
If I can make myself richer now, I shall be able to enrich you
I want to learn how to give, rather than always to take
When you enter my life and I recognize you,
I do not want to take you like a thief.
I want to receive you like a treasure,
and let you give yourself to me.

My beautiful love as yet unknown,
How lovely it would be if we could seek and find together
the chords that would form the right accompaniment
to the songs of joy and suffering that we shall sing together!

My beautiful love as yet unknown,
I want to pray for you tonight
because you already exist,
because I already want to be faithful to you
and because you are already having difficulties
and possibly this is because of me.
I am preparing myself for you
and you are preparing yourself for me...

My beautiful love as yet unknown,
we have to wait for one another now.
We know how painful it is for lovers
who do not know each other’s faces
to go on waiting for each other!

But we also know that, although we are still apart,
our two lives are looking and calling for each other.
And I am also sure that, in the darkness of our longing,
God's longing and God’s light are present.....

--Michel Quiost, France, 20th Century
